Buick has unveiled a concept of the new Electra-GS electric sedan. The four-door model, created by GM design centre in China, is distinguished by impressive dimensions, futuristic appearance and emphasis on premiumity.

Here's What We Know

Buick describes the Electra-GS image as inspired by the mythical centaur, a creature with the body of a horse and the torso of a man. The concept is a sort of design manifesto, emphasising the brand's transition into the electric car era. According to Stuart Norris, vice president of GM China Design, it's a statement of Buick's intention to remain successful in new times by combining expressive form, advanced technology and elegance.

What does that mean in practice? We're looking at a low and streamlined sedan with a sloping roof line and accents that echo Chinese models like the BYD Seal and Han. This is not surprising, as China remains a key market for Buick. At the same time, the manufacturer does not disclose any technical specifications - it is only known that the model is fully electric.

The length of Electra-GS is 5,300 mm, and the wheelbase is 3,200 mm. Thus, the concept is longer not only than Tesla Model S and Lucid Air, but even the long-wheelbase version of Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It is logical, as Chinese buyers traditionally prefer cars with a spacious interior.

The interior also corresponds to the status of the flagship. Inside - low dashboard, providing excellent visibility, strongly profiled seats with anatomical support and two displays: one serves as a digital dashboard, the second - a common multimedia system for the driver and front passenger.

About the serial future of the model is not yet said, but the very fact of appearance of the concept makes it clear that Buick intends to hold its position in the segment of premium electric cars, especially in China. Public presentation of the novelty will take place in the coming days at the International Motor Show in Shanghai.
