Toyota has officially unveiled the sixth generation RAV4. In the European specification, the new generation model has completely abandoned the petrol engine in favour of hybrid versions, including a refined plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

Here's What We Know

The main technical innovation of the PHEV version is a 22.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, which provides up to 100 kilometres of electric range on the WLTP cycle. The battery is designed with Toyota's experience in the field of electric vehicles and supports accelerated charging: it can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes when connected to a 50-kilowatt DC charger. The on-board AC charger has also been updated: its power now reaches 11 kW, double that of the previous model, and allows it to be fully charged in just three hours.

The output of the electric motors has also been increased. The front motor now delivers 150 kW (+16 kW to the previous version), while the AWD-i all-wheel drive system provides a combined output of 304 hp (DIN), allowing the car to accelerate to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. Toyota has also offered a front-wheel drive PHEV version for the first time, developing 268bhp.

The conventional (self-driving) hybrid of the new generation RAV4 is also modernised: the transmission, control unit, battery and other components have been updated. The power of the system with all-wheel drive is now 191 hp, while the front-wheel drive version has 183 hp.

In terms of dimensions, the novelty has not changed - the length remains at the level of 4.60 metres, as in the previous generation. But the design has become noticeably more aggressive: the new front end with V-shaped optics, massive grille and redesigned logo causes an association with the older Land Cruiser. The rear part has retained continuity, but received narrower lanterns, coming on the boot lid and visually expanding the body.

The interior has also undergone a significant digital transformation. The driver is now greeted by a 12.3-inch digital dashboard, with a 12.9-inch touchscreen multimedia system in the centre. The latter is based on the new Arene platform with integrated Google navigation support, customisable menus and accelerated over-the-air software updates.

The market debut of the next-generation Toyota RAV4 is not scheduled until spring 2026. Pricing has not yet been announced, but the current version of the RAV4 starts at €40,990.
