Owners of the Ford Transit Trail have filed a class action lawsuit against the automaker. The lawsuit states that the recall conducted last year deprives the model of its main advantages - off-road capability and increased ground clearance. The lawsuit was filed in Delaware state court and concerns cars of 2023-2024 model years.

Here's What We Know

Last March, Ford reported that the standard 30.5-inch Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse off-road tyres fitted to the Transit Trail could scuff the underfenders when the steering wheel was turned. As a solution, the company offered to replace them with smaller 28.5-inch tyres.

The plaintiffs believe that this decision contradicts the very concept of the model. The text of the lawsuit says: "Although Ford promised an off-road vehicle suitable for camping and adventure, the recall deprives the Transit Trail of its main advantage - 30.5-inch tyres and increased ground clearance".

Among the plaintiffs is Michigan owner Michele Provo, who bought the vehicle in February 2024 with the intention of using it for camping trips. After learning of the problem with the tyres, she spent about $2,000 to install new springs to keep it operable with the original wheels.

Another plaintiff, Susan Cherwa, turned to Vandoit Atelier to remove the fenders and upgrade the suspension - all so her Transit Trail could continue to be used for its intended purpose.

The initiators of the class action lawsuit are demanding a jury trial and want to seek compensation from Ford for all Ford Transit Trail owners in the US.
