In Uzbekistan, the modernisation of the Soviet T-64B tank was demonstrated. The vehicle has been completely redesigned, equipped with a new engine and a number of visually atypical solutions.

Here's What We Know

The updated T-64B tank, which has not been shown publicly before, appeared in a video published by armour researcher Andrii Tarasenko. The official presentation is to take place at an exhibition in Victory Park in Tashkent from 29 May to 1 June.

The specific name of the project has not yet been disclosed. Among the likely developers are Semey Engineering or the Cherchik Armoured Vehicle Repair Plant. It is possible that it is another company.

The tank has changed dramatically in appearance: the entire hull is covered with a futuristic protective "casing" that may consist of additional armour elements. A heavy panel with decorative elements covers the sides, and the gun is hidden under the same "casing".

Traditional optics and triplexes are not visible on the vehicle, but a round hole is placed on the front. There are signs of a night camera for the driver. At the same time, there are no machine guns or smoke screen mortars.

Changes have also taken place "under the hood": instead of the old 5TDF engine, we see a modern DP222LC diesel engine from the South Korean company Doosan with a capacity of 950 hp. The tank also had its headlights replaced and the exhaust system redesigned. According to the Ministry of Defence of Uzbekistan, the updated T-64 weighs 38.5 tonnes and can accelerate to 50 km/h.
