The Peugeot 208 GTi hot hatch is back and it's now a 280bhp electric car
Peugeot has returned a 'supercharged' version of the 208 compact hatchback to the model range after a six-year hiatus. The reborn model, labelled E-208 GTI, was officially unveiled during the Le Mans 24 Hours 2025 endurance race.
Here's What We Know
The 208/e-208 is built on the Stellantis e-CMP platform, which is also used by the Fiat 600 and Alfa Romeo Junior. Unsurprisingly, the e-208 GTI shares many similarities with the hot electric versions of these cars - the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima and Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce. The same electric motor produces 280 horsepower and 345 Nm of torque to the front wheels. However, Peugeot claims a slight advantage in dynamics: acceleration to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds against 5.9 for Alfa and Abarth.
The 54 kW⋅h battery provides a range of 350 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. Charging from a home station (7.4 kW) takes 4 hours 40 minutes. There is a function to limit the charge to 80% for daily use. At the 100 kW fast charging station, the car charges from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in less than 30 minutes. A V2L function is also available - you can power external devices from the car's battery, such as charging an electric bike.
The suspension of the GTI version is lowered by 30 mm, the track is widened by 56 mm at the front and 27 mm at the rear - this gives the GTI a more sporty look like the legendary 205 GTI 1.9. Even the 18-inch wheels with multi-spoke design and red GTI letters in the centre reference the classics. Red accents are everywhere: on the arch extenders, grille, headlights, four-piston brakes with 355 mm discs. In the interior red lighting, mats, seat belts, stitching on the panels and sports seats with a central red stripe - all this is a tribute to the design of 205 GTI.
Pricing for the new Peugeot E-208 GTI has not yet been announced.
