Apple faces unexpected challenges: demand for the new iPhone Air fell short of their forecasts despite its innovative changes. According to Japan's Mizuho Securities, the company plans to reduce production of this model by one million units.

This decision contrasts with Apple's overall strategy for the iPhone 17 lineup: production of other models, the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, will be increased by two million units. The overall production forecast for the iPhone 17 series at the beginning of 2026 has been raised from 88 to 94 million units.

Although the iPhone Air sold quickly in China at launch, it did not generate the same excitement in Western countries. Analysts believe that the price and technical specifications limited its appeal: buyers prefer the basic iPhone 17 for its price-performance ratio or choose Pro models for better cameras and good gaming performance.

The situation with the iPhone Air resembles the recent Samsung case: according to rumors, due to weak sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge, the company decided to exclude the Edge model from the next Galaxy S26 series, replacing it with the Galaxy S26 Plus.

Despite reducing iPhone Air production, Apple demonstrates strategic flexibility, adapting the model range to market expectations. The iPhone 17 lineup remains one of the most successful in recent years, maintaining high demand worldwide. There is currently no talk of a complete cessation of iPhone Air production, and previous rumors indicated that the company plans to release the iPhone Air 2 in 2026.
