Finally, the long-standing rumor that the cult game Bloodborne would be adapted into an animated film has been confirmed.

What is known

At the CinemaCon 2026 conference, Sony Pictures representatives officially announced that a movie adaptation of Bloodborne with a high age rating (R) is in production. The fact that the anime will not be recommended for those under 17 indicates that the creators will maintain the game's dark aesthetic, emphasized brutality, and abundance of bloody scenes. President of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group Sanford Panitch stated that "the film is very close in spirit to the original game."

The adaptation of Bloodborne is being produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and YouTuber jacksepticeye, with the project being funded by Lyrical Media, the parent company of Lyrical Animation.

At the moment, there is absolutely no information about the plot and the film’s release dates.

Recall, since its release in 2015, Bloodborne remains a PlayStation 4 exclusive and has not even received a native version for PS5. Gamers dream of its release on PC and a full-fledged remaster, but for now, it's only a fantasy. Perhaps the success of the anime will make Sony reconsider their position.
