Major Ubisoft Releases Unveiled: Ghost Recon Returns to Roots, Splinter Cell Remake Survives Production Hell
On the podcast Insider Gaming Weekly, Tom Henderson not only Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced: Stunning Graphics, New Storyline, and a Monkey Crew Member!, but also talked about other Ubisoft games that have gone through a "major overhaul", workflow reformatting, and several waves of layoffs in most divisions of the French publisher.
Ghost Recon: back to the roots
According to one of the most authoritative gaming journalists, the next major release after Flag Resynced will be the long-awaited new installment in the Ghost Recon tactical shooter series. Henderson has talked about it several times before and it was known then that Tactical shooter with a dark plot: insider reveals first details of the new Ghost Recon instalment: it will be a dark first-person shooter set in a fictional country in Southeast Asia, and in terms of storytelling, it will resemble the early parts of Call of Duty Modern Warfare.
Sam Fisher went through development hell
An equally protracted project is the remake of the cult stealth-action game Splinter Cell, announced in 2021. According to Henderson, it is not among the games canceled in winter, and its release is expected in 2027.
A few months ago, game director David Grivel returned to Ubisoft (after a four-year absence) and, apparently, he managed to set the troubled game's development on track.
Far Cry: it was hard, but Ubisoft is managing
The publisher is also continuing work on the next game in the flagship Far Cry series. According to Henderson, the team experienced significant difficulties and was unable to find a suitable development vector for a long time, but development is progressing.
In 2023, it became known that what was tentatively Far Cry 7 was split into two titles: the next numbered entry codenamed Blackbird and Extreme cold and high risk: an insider revealed interesting details of an online shooter based on the Far Cry franchise with the working title Project Maverick, possibly set in Alaska.
Other games
A few days ago, information appeared in the media that Ubisoft gave a "second chance" to the developers of the highly-rated but commercially unsuccessful Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, but Henderson cannot confirm this rumor yet. However, the development of the Rayman Legends remake is "actively progressing."
