While Valve is not interested in independently updating its iconic games, gamers have taken matters into their own hands and released a new fan-made project. It's about Portal 2: Community Edition, the open beta of which became available on Steam on the 15th anniversary of the famous puzzle.

What is known

Portal 2: Community Edition is a kind of remaster that is available for free if you own the original game. It is created on the updated Strata Source engine and offers improved graphics, volumetric lighting, high-resolution textures, higher performance, expanded modification capabilities, as well as native support for the Steam Workshop.

Valve was not involved in the creation of Portal 2: Community Edition, but granted developers a license to use the code and generally reacted favorably to the update of its game.

At the moment, there are unfinished elements and bugs may occur, but this is just a beta version, and by the full release, the developers promise to rid Portal 2: Community Edition of all problems.
