11 bit studios to Reimagine This War of Mine: New Deep Experience on Unreal Engine 5 Amid Global Conflicts
11 bit studios published a financial report in which, along with business indicators, they provided some information interesting to gamers, including about project P15, which will be a "reimagining" of This War of Mine — their most emotional and heavy hit.
The game was released in 2014, received immense recognition, and even became part of the Polish school curriculum. Now, more than ten years after the original release, the developers will return to the theme of civilian survival during urban combat, as unfortunately, it has only become more relevant against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and other conflicts.
What is Known
The Poles state that this will not be a remaster with enhanced textures or a remake. The developers will change the very foundation of This War of Mine to make the gaming experience even deeper.
11 bit does not want to reveal the details of P15 prematurely but claims that it will be a project similar to Frostpunk 1886 — an updated version of This War of Mine in all aspects, taking into account the experience gained by the developers.
The main goal of the Polish studio is to make the game with a complex social message resonate with more gamers and become more interesting for the new generation.
This War of Mine will be completely transferred to Unreal Engine 5, which will allow for the implementation of dynamic lighting and detailing that will emphasize the oppressive atmosphere of a destroyed city.
When to Expect
Active work on the reimagining of This War of Mine will start in the middle of 2026, and its release is expected 2-3 years later.
Recall, the gameplay of This War of Mine involves managing a small group of survivors in a destroyed city and making the most competent use of scarce resources: food, water, weapons, and medicines. By day, the characters hide in a shelter and try not to lose morale, while at night, one of them ventures out in search of loot. Every action is unrelenting, and characters can die in the most unpredictable situations. Players face difficult moral choices, often having to make ambiguous decisions, sacrifice small things for the group's survival, and confront the consequences of each choice. The main goal of This War of Mine is to survive 43 days, until the end of the war.
