Chinese wearable brand Rogbid has launched the SpinX, a rugged smartwatch priced at $49.99 that replaces the standard touchscreen-only interface with an optical scroll wheel. It targets buyers who want outdoor durability without spending Apple Watch money — though the lack of GPS and direct-import-only availability complicate the pitch for US and UK shoppers.

The scroll wheel

The SpinX's headline feature is an optical scroll wheel sitting below the display. Unlike a mechanical crown, it uses optical sensors to track movement, which means no physical parts to wear out. Rogbid says it delivers more precise menu navigation than swiping on glass — useful when your hands are wet or gloved. The watch comes in two colors: Tech Black and Vibrant Orange.

The specs

The display is a 1.3-inch AMOLED panel at 466×466px. Rogbid also claims a 1,100 mAh battery good for up to 100 days on standby — two to three times the rated capacity of most rivals, including Apple Watch. Real-world active use, with notifications and always-on display enabled, is realistically a few weeks, per GSMGoTech review. The watch is rated to MIL-STD-810H military durability standards and carries 3 ATM water resistance, making it swim-safe to 30 meters.

A built-in LED flashlight supports a high-power beam, strobe, and SOS mode — a practical addition for hiking or camping. Health tracking covers heart rate, SpO2 blood oxygen, and sleep monitoring, with over 100 sports modes on board. There's also a compass, Bluetooth calling via a built-in speaker and mic, and smartphone notification mirroring.

What's missing is GPS. Navigation is compass-only, which means you'll need a phone or paper map on trail. That's a significant gap compared to the Garmin Venu 3 ($399), Apple Watch SE ($249), or even the Fitbit Inspire 3 ($99), all of which include GNSS tracking and deeper app ecosystems.

Getting one

The SpinX is sold exclusively through Rogbid's official store at $49.99. There's no Amazon US, Amazon UK, Currys, or Best Buy listing. US buyers should expect standard shipping; UK buyers face a 7–20 day delivery window from China and potential customs charges on top of the purchase price. Warranty claims and returns would also require shipping back to the manufacturer directly.

At $50, the SpinX is a genuinely unusual device — the optical scroll wheel is a real differentiator, and the battery capacity is hard to match at this price. But the absent GPS and friction-heavy buying experience mean it's best suited to buyers who specifically want a rugged, long-lasting secondary watch rather than a daily driver.
