After Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft Already Has Another AC Remake in the Works
Ubisoft isn't stopping at one remake. Just days after officially announcing Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced for July 9, 2026, insider Tom Henderson revealed on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast that a second classic AC title is already in early development. The news signals a deliberate remake pipeline — not a one-off nostalgia play.
The pipeline
Henderson was clear he doesn't know the exact title, but described it as "one of the classic games." The strongest candidate, based on reporting by GameRant, is the original Assassin's Creed from 2007. That game is the most technically dated in the series, yet it carries the deepest lore and remains the most frequently requested for a remake by fans. Rumors of an AC1 do-over have circulated for at least five years. An AC2 bundle — folding in Brotherhood and Revelations — is another possibility Henderson floated, as is AC3.
The reason there's a second remake in the pipeline at all? Resources. Henderson says Ubisoft currently has no plans to remake the Freedom Cry standalone DLC (the Black Flag expansion following escaped slave Adéwalé) because development capacity is already committed to the next project.
The sales condition
Freedom Cry isn't off the table permanently. Henderson put the threshold at around 10 million copies sold for Black Flag Resynced — hit that number and Ubisoft would likely greenlight a Freedom Cry remake rather than leave money on the table. The broader remake roadmap follows the same logic: future projects only get the green light if Resynced performs.
Black Flag Resynced itself is a full rebuild on the enhanced Anvil engine (the same technology behind AC Shadows), with raytracing, new story content, an officer progression system, and the original voice cast returning. The BusinessWire Ubisoft press release confirms a $59.99 Standard Edition — notably below the $70 price point many expected for a premium release. Deluxe and Collector's editions are also available.
The game launches July 9, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Pre-orders are open now across all platforms. No Xbox Game Pass day-one inclusion has been announced, suggesting Ubisoft is betting on full-price sales to prove the remake model works.
