Samsung Announces Galaxy Watch 4 and Unveils One UI Watch - New OS for Wear OS-Based Smartwatches

As promised, today, on the first day of MWC 2021, Samsung unveiled a new operating system for its smart watches, the One UI Watch.

What happened

The new skin is based on Google Wear OS, a platform for wearable devices that was announced at the Google I / O conference in May. Then Google announced a partnership with Samsung and the transition of its smartwatches to a common OS instead of Tizen OS. According to Samsung, the One UI Watch brings together the best of Wear OS and Tizen. The company also confirmed that the platform will debut on the new Galaxy Watch "later this summer". While no details have been revealed about the Galaxy Watch 4, the manufacturer has highlighted some of the software features you can expect from it.

So, thanks to One UI Watch, the upcoming watch will support automatic installation of applications. If you install an app from the Play Store that has a watch app, it is automatically installed on the watch as well. There is seamless sync between watch and smartphone, so if you have multiple cities in the watch app, or if you have blocked a number on your phone, these settings will be carried over to your watch.

Samsung also announced that the One UI Watch will offer support for the entire Play Store ecosystem, allowing you to easily download all supported Wear OS apps to your smartwatch. The company also announced that its upcoming smartwatches will support third-party watch faces.

One UI Watch also opens up a larger list of apps than Tizen - Spotify, YouTube Music, Google Maps, and more.

Samsung says the next Galaxy Watch will feature longer battery life, better performance and the aforementioned wider range of apps thanks to Google's wearable OS. Now we have to wait only for the official announcement of the Galaxy Watch 4, which is expected in August.
