Huawei has unveiled the Nova 15 Max, a mid-range smartphone built around the largest battery in the company's history — 8,500mAh. The phone launched on May 7 at an event in Bangkok alongside the MatePad Pro Max tablet and Watch Fit 5 Pro smartwatch. Priced at €449 (roughly $490) in Europe, it targets buyers who prioritize all-day endurance over flagship specs.

The battery case

The 8,500mAh cell uses what Huawei calls "energy pump" technology, claiming over 98% charge discharge efficiency. Wired charging tops out at 40W via HUAWEI SuperCharge, and the phone supports reverse wired charging — so it can top up other devices in a pinch. Huawei claims up to 25 hours of GPS navigation and 48 hours of calls on a single charge, per Notebookcheck.

The hardware

The 6.84-inch OLED display runs at 1.5K resolution (2,756 × 1,272), 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 4,000 nits — unusually high for this price bracket. The aluminum-alloy frame carries an SGS five-star drop and impact certification. A programmable X button on the left edge launches any app of your choice — flashlight, calculator, camera — with a single press.

Under the hood sits Huawei's Kirin 8000 chipset. The global version ships with EMUI 14.2 rather than Android; the Chinese variant runs HarmonyOS 6. That software gap is worth noting for buyers used to Google services, which are absent from EMUI devices.

Camera specs are modest for the design: a 50MP RYYB main sensor paired with a 2MP depth camera, plus an 8MP front shooter. Connectivity covers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and an infrared port. Stereo speakers round out the package.

The camera module adopts Huawei's premium circular design, though the sensor specs remain mid-range.

Availability

The €449 European price is confirmed for 256GB storage, according to FoneArena. No UK sterling pricing or US dollar equivalent has been announced, and no retailers in either market have listed the device. Huawei's position under US export restrictions makes availability in both countries uncertain. Pre-registrations are open in the UAE; broader rollout details are expected after the Bangkok launch.

Battery-first positioning puts it up against rivals like the Vivo Y600 Pro (10,200mAh) and Honor X80i, per GizChina. At €449, the Nova 15 Max is a compelling spec sheet — if it reaches your market.
