Motorola Edge+ 2023 is getting Android 16 — its last major update

The Motorola Edge+ (2023) is receiving Android 16 — the third and final major OS upgrade the company promised at launch. Motorola committed to three years of OS updates and four years of security patches when the phone debuted at $799 in May 2023, per 9to5Google. That promise is now fulfilled, ahead of some rivals — though the rollout is starting in Canada and a wider US timeline hasn't been confirmed.

The update

The firmware, numbered W1TR36H.56-13, weighs in at over 2.3 GB, so a stable Wi-Fi connection and some free storage are worth checking before you hit download. Users on Reddit have already confirmed it's rolling out.

The headline addition is Desktop Window mode. It lets you resize and move app windows freely around the screen in a freeform layout — similar in concept to Samsung DeX, and a natural extension of Motorola's existing Ready For desktop feature. For a phone that's now two-and-a-half years old, it's a genuinely useful upgrade for anyone who pairs the device with a monitor or keyboard.

Live Updates is the other standout. Real-time status cards for deliveries, ride-shares, and sports scores appear directly on the lock screen and in the notification shade — no need to open an app to check where your parcel is.

What else is in the box

Beyond those two marquee features, YTECHB confirms Android 16 also brings HDR screenshot support, APV codec compatibility for higher-quality video at lower system load, improved notification grouping to tame busy group chats, and expanded hearing aid settings for better accessibility.

What comes next

Android 16 closes out the major update cycle for the Edge+ 2023. The phone launched on Android 13 and has now stepped through 14, 15, and 16 — the full three-upgrade run. Security patches will continue for some time, so the device won't suddenly become unsafe to use, but don't expect another numbered Android version.

Motorola's update velocity has historically trailed Google and Samsung, and this rollout follows that pattern: confirmed in Canada first, with US availability unspecified. If you own one, keep an eye on Settings → System → System update over the coming weeks.
