Casio is launching a new G-Shock in June 2026 that no two buyers will own in quite the same way. The GM-S5600XG-1 features a vacuum-deposited rainbow glass display cover, a process applied individually to each unit so the color gradient is never repeated. The watch is a collaboration with XG, the seven-member Japanese hip-hop and R&B; group appointed as G-SHOCK's global ambassador in July 2025.

The watch

The GM-S5600XG-1 is built on the classic 5600 platform — one of G-Shock's most recognizable silhouettes — but uses the slimmer, shorter GM-S body designed for smaller wrists. It measures 44×38×11mm and weighs around 50g. Beyond the iridescent glass, the design is deliberately understated: a black bezel, a bio-resin strap, and subtle XG branding on the dial, strap loop, and caseback. Casio says additional colorways are coming, including a pink version.

Specs are in line with current G-Shock standards. You get 200-metre water resistance, shock-resistant construction, an auto-calendar valid through 2099, a Super Illuminator LED backlight, and a battery rated for approximately three years.

The XG angle

XG performed at Coachella in April 2025 — the first Japanese girl group to do so — and has built a following of over three million on Instagram. Casio is clearly positioning this watch at the music-fashion crossover crowd, where limited-edition collabs function as much as merchandise as timekeepers.

The rainbow glass technique mirrors processes used in higher-end watchmaking — Seiko's Presage line uses similar vacuum deposition on dials — giving each piece a genuinely unique finish. What Casio hasn't addressed yet is how that coating holds up to daily wear and scratches over time.

Price and availability

The GM-S5600XG-1 goes on sale in June 2026. No official price has been announced. For context, the Bamford x G-Shock GM-5600 collab launched at $280; the XG edition is expected to carry a modest premium above standard 5600 pricing given the special coating and partnership. Casio's own online store will be the primary sales channel, with wider retail placement unconfirmed for now.
