Samsung's ViewFinity S8 is the first Thunderbolt 5 professional monitor you can actually buy
Samsung has released two new professional monitors under its ViewFinity S8 line, and the 40-inch model is the first shipping Thunderbolt 5 display aimed at creative pros. Both screens are available to order globally as of May 2026, though pricing for the smaller model is still unconfirmed.
The 40-inch S85TH
The S85TH is the headline act. Its curved panel runs at 5120×2160 (WUHD) with a 144Hz refresh rate — fast enough for smooth scrubbing through 4K timelines and comfortable for general multitasking. The Thunderbolt 5 port moves data at up to 80 Gbps and pushes 140W of charging, meaning a MacBook Pro or high-end Windows laptop can run the screen and charge fully from a single cable. Samsung calls its simplified pairing system Easy Connection. US pricing sits at $1,431 — above Dell's UltraSharp USB-C displays but well below Apple's Studio Display at $1,599 and the Dell UltraSharp 6K at $3,999.

The 27-inch S80HF
The S80HF steps down in size but keeps a 5K resolution and adds a USB-C port for data and charging. Samsung pitches it as the more accessible entry point to high-resolution professional work. The ergonomic stand is designed for long editing sessions. Pricing has not been announced for any market yet.

What this means in practice
Thunderbolt 5 monitors are still rare on store shelves. The S85TH's combination of 80 Gbps bandwidth, 144Hz, and WUHD resolution sets it apart from the main alternatives — the BenQ MA270U and Dell U2723QE both top out at USB-C 90W and lack the refresh rate headroom. For video editors or 3D artists running a single-cable desktop from a laptop, the S85TH fills a gap that previously required either a daisy-chain of adapters or a much pricier Apple-ecosystem display.
In the UK, Samsung's previous ViewFinity S8 models (S80UD, S80TB) are currently out of stock on Samsung.co.uk. Legacy 4K variants remain available on Amazon UK from around £436. No UK-specific pricing has been confirmed for the new S85TH or S80HF yet, so check Samsung's site and major retailers for updates as stock lands.
