Xiaomi has launched its first full shower system under the Mijia brand in China, priced at 1,099 yuan — roughly $161 or £127. That puts it well below the entry point for established bathroom brands like Grohe or Hansgrohe, whose comparable systems typically start at £400 in the UK and go well past £1,000. The catch: there's no confirmed availability outside China yet.

The hardware

The system's most distinctive feature is a large tempered-glass panel that mounts directly to the wall. Unlike standard chrome fittings, glass resists limescale buildup visibly — a practical advantage for anyone who's scrubbed a shower weekly. Above the mixer, the panel extends into a 370mm shelf wide enough for shampoo bottles and shower gels, with a thermally insulated surface that Gizmochina (May 2026) says stays cool even during hot showers.

The overhead shower head is square, measuring 305mm across, and supports three spray patterns. A separate handheld unit adds a standard spray and a narrow jet for rinsing. Both can run simultaneously — useful if you want overhead rain coverage while directing the handheld at something specific.

The piano keys

Controls are the headline quirk. Instead of a single lever or dial, the system uses individual push buttons arranged like piano keys — each one dedicated to a specific mode. The four options are: overhead shower, handheld, waterfall flow, and a high-pressure jet for rinsing down the walls or tub. According to XimiTime, the physical key layout is designed to stay usable with wet, soapy hands.

The body is cast from H59-grade brass, an antibacterial alloy that inhibits microbial growth inside the plumbing — a spec you'd usually only see cited on significantly pricier hardware. Temperature adjustment is described as smooth, without the pressure-spike issues common in cheaper valves.

Availability

Right now, the Mijia shower system is exclusive to China via Xiaomi's Youpin crowdfunding platform, where it launched at a reduced price of 899 yuan (~$132). There's no official announcement for the US, UK, or any other market. Xiaomi has brought other Mijia products to Europe through third-party sellers over time, but there's no timeline for this one. If you're renovating a bathroom today, the legacy brands still have the shelf space — but Xiaomi is clearly signalling it wants a piece of it.
