Capcom Announces Resident Evil: Veronica Remake for 2027
Capcom has announced a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, the survival-horror game that has been conspicuously absent from the company's recent remake pipeline. Revealed at Summer Game Fest 2026, the game drops the "Code" from its title and launches simply as Resident Evil: Veronica — landing on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (Steam), and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. It's the first full Resident Evil remake since RE4 in 2023, and it arrives on the heels of Resident Evil Requiem selling 7 million copies in its first two months.
The gap in the timeline
RE2, RE3, and RE4 all got modern remakes between 2019 and 2023. Code: Veronica — originally a Dreamcast exclusive released in 2000 and the first major Resident Evil title to appear on a non-PlayStation platform — was skipped every time, despite being a direct story bridge to RE5. The remake brings back Claire Redfield, who hasn't been a playable lead since the RE2 Remake in 2019. She's searching for her brother Chris when she's captured by Umbrella on Rockfort Island, triggering another T-virus outbreak and an encounter with the aristocratic Ashford family — and a surprise return from Albert Wesker.
What the trailer shows (and doesn't)
The reveal trailer, shown at Summer Game Fest, is heavy on cinematics — including scenes set in a Parisian apartment — and light on gameplay. Graphics look sharp, as expected from the RE Engine, which has powered every major Capcom remake since RE2. No price has been announced; the RE4 Remake set a precedent at $59.99 on release, so a similar AAA tier is a reasonable expectation. A Q1 2027 window is widely reported by industry insiders, per GamesRadar, though Capcom has only confirmed "2027" officially.
Switch 2 and what's next
Day-one Switch 2 availability matches the Requiem release model and signals Capcom treating the new Nintendo platform as a first-tier target, not an afterthought. Pre-orders and regional pricing for the US and UK have not opened yet. A deeper gameplay reveal is almost certainly coming before the end of 2026.
