A free-to-play Witcher co-op RPG is reportedly in development for PC and mobile

A free-to-play cooperative action RPG set in The Witcher universe has leaked, and it's headed to both PC and mobile. According to MP1st, the unannounced title lets players create their own witcher — picking a school, signs, and potions — rather than playing as Geralt. If accurate, it marks CD Projekt Red's most ambitious attempt yet at a multiplayer Witcher experience outside the main series.

The game

The leak describes a cooperative monster-hunting game set in 1230, during Geralt's younger years. Players take on contracts solo or with others across forests, villages, and ruins, using a combat system described as typical of modern action games. Character creation includes school choice, magical signs, and alchemy loadouts — features originally rumored for The Witcher 4 before that game pivoted to center on Ciri.

The developer is not CD Projekt Red itself. The studio announced a partnership with Scopely in March 2025 to build a game based on one of its IPs, and the leaked gameplay details point squarely at that project. Scopely is best known for Monopoly GO and Marvel Strike Force, and now also owns Pokemon GO after acquiring Niantic in 2024 for a reported $3.5 billion.

The catch

CD Projekt Red's CEO Michał Nowakowski made clear at the May 2026 earnings call that a 2026 release is "definitely not" on the table. The project is still in early development, with no monetization model, pricing tiers, or regional availability disclosed.

That context matters. The Witcher's last mobile outing — Monster Slayer, a location-based AR game — launched in 2021 and shut down just two years later after failing to hold players. GWENT and Thronebreaker, the card-based spin-offs, fared better, which raises a fair question about whether a co-op action RPG can succeed where a more casual format couldn't.

Separate from Sirius

This project is distinct from Project Sirius, the console-targeted multiplayer Witcher spin-off announced in 2022 and rebooted in 2023 by Molasses Flood — a studio that has since merged with CD Projekt Red. Two different multiplayer bets on the same franchise, one mobile-first and one console-first.

No release window has been given for the free-to-play game. The Scopely attribution remains unconfirmed by either company.
