Assassin's Creed Shadows gets a pirate-themed finale that bridges to Black Flag Resynced

Ubisoft is closing out Assassin's Creed Shadows with a pirate-flavored send-off designed to connect the 2025 Japan-set game to its beloved 2013 Caribbean predecessor. Update 1.1.11 — the last planned content drop — arrives today and folds in a new story quest, an endgame combat mode, and costume crossovers with Black Flag Resynced, the remake due on July 9, 2026.

The update

The headline addition is Black Tides, a story quest that runs roughly two hours. Two elite Templar pirates known as the Black Cross sail to Japan hunting protagonists Naoe and Yasuke — and Ubisoft is nudging Black Flag fans that there's something here for them specifically. To access it, you'll need to have finished the main story and completed two earlier missions: A Critical Encounter and A Puzzlement.

Alongside Black Tides, the update introduces Domains, an endgame activity with five arenas and ten difficulty tiers. It won't advance the narrative, but it offers a structured challenge loop with unique gear rewards for players who want more to do after the credits roll.

Two new Projects — Riptides and Undertow — land in the Animus Hub online platform. They add Black Flag-themed outfits for Shadows characters. Play the other direction, and completing Edward Kenway-related content in Resynced will unlock Shadows-branded gear in that game.

The bigger picture

Shadows topped UK retail charts for several weeks after launch and shifted around 4.3 million units in its first seven months, per GameRant. This final update reads as much as a goodwill gesture as a content release — Ubisoft thanking players while steering attention toward Resynced.

Black Flag Resynced launches July 9 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, per XboxAchievements. One notable gap: Switch 2 owners can play Shadows, but Resynced won't be available on Nintendo's new hardware, so the costume crossovers won't reach that platform.

Assassin's Creed Shadows is available now on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.
