Qualcomm sets Snapdragon Summit 2026 for Hawaii in September
Qualcomm has confirmed Snapdragon Summit 2026 for September 22–24 in Hawaii, where it will officially unveil its next generation of flagship mobile chips. For the first time, the company is splitting its top-tier lineup into two separate processors — a move that could push flagship Android phone prices noticeably higher in the US and UK.
Two chips, one summit
The pair carry internal code names SM8950 and SM8975, and are expected to launch as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Both use TSMC's 2nm manufacturing process — a node whose wafers cost roughly 30% more than current 3nm chips, per Notebookcheck.
The split between the two goes beyond branding. The Pro variant (SM8975) gets LPDDR6 memory and an Adreno 850 GPU with 18MB of graphics memory. The standard Gen 6 (SM8950) uses LPDDR5X and an Adreno 845 with 12MB. Early leaks put the Pro's peak clock speed at around 5.0 GHz, with some estimates ranging up to 5.5 GHz — territory that starts to overlap with desktop processors.

Qualcomm hasn't resolved whether Samsung's foundry will share production duties. Talks between the two companies remain unresolved, according to WCCFtech, meaning TSMC looks set to remain the exclusive manufacturer — at least at launch.
What it means for your next phone
The Pro chip is expected to land in the most expensive handsets: Sammy Fans reports the Galaxy S27 Ultra will use the Gen 6 Pro globally. The OnePlus 16 is tipped as the first retail device with any Gen 6 chip, launching in China around October 2026. US and UK availability is realistically a Q1 2027 story for most buyers.
The tier split, combined with higher wafer costs, could add 15–20% to the price of top-end Android flagships compared to this generation. The standard Gen 6 will still appear in plenty of premium phones — just without the Pro's memory bandwidth and GPU headroom.
Qualcomm has only confirmed the dates for now. Full specs, architectural details, and launch timelines will be revealed during the September presentations in Hawaii.
