OnePlus has launched the N6, a budget Android phone built around a massive 8,000mAh battery and a charging feature aimed squarely at mobile gamers. It went on sale in India on July 4, starting at around $243 (roughly £192), and no US or UK launch date has been announced. Whether it reaches Western markets at all is an open question — Tech Advisor notes that the Nord 6, a 9,000mAh India-only variant, skipped Western markets entirely.

The battery play

The headline number is the 8,000mAh cell — genuinely large even by 2026 standards. OnePlus pairs it with 45W SuperVOOC fast charging and 5W reverse wired charging, so you can top up earbuds or a friend's phone in a pinch.

The more interesting feature is bypass charging. When activated, power from the charger routes directly to the phone's processor and display, bypassing the battery entirely. That means less heat during long gaming sessions and reduced wear on the cell over time. OnePlus claims the battery will survive more than 1,600 charge cycles and retain over 80% capacity after seven years of use. That's an ambitious pledge for a budget device, and independent verification isn't possible yet — the phone only just launched, as GSMArena confirmed.

The specs and the trade-offs

The processor is a MediaTek Dimensity 6360 Max — a capable entry-level 5G chip, fine for casual gaming and everyday multitasking, but a step below the Snapdragon 7-series chips found in rivals like the Samsung Galaxy A-series. RAM options are 4GB or 6GB, with 128GB of storage in both cases.

The 6.8-inch display runs at HD+ resolution, which is a noticeable compromise at this screen size. The upside: it helps preserve battery life. A 120Hz refresh rate keeps scrolling smooth, and peak brightness of 1,200 nits means the screen holds up outdoors.

Camera hardware is basic: a 50MP main sensor backed by a 2MP monochrome lens, plus an 8MP front camera. Software is OxygenOS 16 on Android 16, with two major OS updates and three years of security patches promised. The phone weighs 208g and measures 9mm thick — reasonable given the battery size.

Worth watching?

For US and UK shoppers, the N6 is a phone to monitor rather than buy right now. OnePlus has shown a pattern of narrowing its Western lineup, and no pricing or retailer partnership has been confirmed outside India. If it does arrive, the bypass charging feature gives it a real differentiator in the crowded sub-£250 segment — but the processor tier and HD+ screen mean it will face stiff competition from Motorola and Xiaomi at similar prices.
