Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy goes gold ahead of August 27 launch
French developer Asobo Studio has confirmed that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy has gone gold, meaning development is complete and the game will ship as scheduled on August 27, 2026. It arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC — and lands day one on Xbox Game Pass with cross-save support via Xbox Play Anywhere. After two games built around vulnerability and stealth, the series is taking a hard turn toward action.
A new hero, a new fight
The prequel centers on Sophia, a smuggler introduced briefly in Requiem (2022), set 15 years before that game's events. She travels to a mysterious island tied to Minotaur mythology, and the story weaves between two timelines — one medieval, one ancient Minoan — letting players control both Sophia and the mythological figure Theseus.

The biggest shift is combat. Sophia wields a sword and dagger and can hold her own against large groups of enemies, a stark contrast to Amicia's desperate, avoid-at-all-costs approach in the earlier games. Asobo grew its team to around 80 developers over three years specifically to master melee design — the studio had zero prior experience with it. Lead level designer Valérian Robert cited Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro as reference points, per Wikipedia. That's an ambitious benchmark, and how well the combat lands in practice remains to be seen.
What's in it for Game Pass subscribers
For Xbox and PC players already on Game Pass, this one costs nothing extra on launch day. The Play Anywhere support means progress carries between Xbox consoles and Windows PC without friction. In a crowded August 2026 release window, that's a real advantage over titles asking $70 upfront.
Composer Olivier Derivière, who scored both previous entries, returns for Resonance. The soundtrack incorporates authentic Greek-Cypriot vocals and traditional instruments to match the Minoan setting — a notable step up in musical scope from the plague-ridden French countryside of the originals, as Focus Entertainment confirmed.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches August 27, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
