Most laptops under €1,000 solder their RAM and SSD to the motherboard, leaving you stuck with the specs you bought. Lenovo's new IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 (model 14IPH11) breaks that pattern: it ships with two removable SO-DIMM DDR5 slots and two M.2 SSD bays, meaning you can buy the base model and upgrade later. It's now available across Europe and the UK, starting at €800.

The upgradeable angle

Most 2-in-1 convertibles — including pricier rivals like the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 — come with soldered memory. Lenovo's approach here means you can buy the €800 entry config and slot in more RAM or a second SSD down the line without voiding anything proprietary. The Notebookcheck review confirms two classic SO-DIMM slots and both M.2 2242 and M.2 2280 formats — calling it a rarity for this class.

Inside, the machine runs Intel's new Panther Lake architecture. Two processor options are available: the Core Ultra 5 322 and the Core Ultra 7 355, the latter offering roughly 20% more performance. Both chips include an NPU that hits 50 TOPS — comfortably clearing the 40 TOPS bar Microsoft requires for Copilot+ PC status. That unlocks Windows 11 AI features including Recall and Click-to-Do without a cloud subscription, as TechAndTrends Panther Lake analysis details.

The hardware

The 14-inch touchscreen runs at 1920×1200 (16:10 ratio) — IPS on base models, OLED on the top configs. Peak brightness is 400 nits at a 60 Hz refresh rate. The hinge opens flat to 180°, so you can use it as a tablet or prop it up for presentations. At 1.56 kg and 16.9 mm thick, it's portable without being fragile.

Battery is a 60 Wh cell with Lenovo's Rapid Charge Boost: 15 minutes plugged in returns around two hours of runtime. Connectivity covers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, two USB-C ports (Power Delivery and DisplayPort), two USB-A ports, full-size HDMI, and a microSD slot.

Price and availability

The IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 is on sale now through Lenovo's EU storefront and European retailers, in three colours — Cosmic Blue, Luna Grey, and Breeze Moss. Pricing runs from €800–€899 for the Core Ultra 5 base config up to €1,319 for the fully loaded Core Ultra 7 model. UK GBP pricing hasn't been confirmed at retail partners yet; the €800 entry point converts to roughly £680–£750. Lenovo's UK site currently lists older AMD-based IdeaPad models, so it's worth checking Lenovo.com directly for the 14IPH11 availability in Britain.

For anyone who's been burned by a sealed ultrabook that felt underpowered two years in, the upgrade path here is the real selling point — not just the specs on the box.
