Fi Ultra is the first dog tracker with Starlink satellite coverage — but only in the US

Fi launched the Ultra on July 8 — the world's first consumer pet tracker with Starlink satellite connectivity. The collar costs $199 plus a $189-per-year subscription, and it's available now in the United States only. If you've ever watched a GPS collar drop to "no signal" the moment your dog bolts into deep woods, this is the device built to fix that.

How the tracking works

Fi Ultra connects across three layers: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi at home, standard LTE in cities and suburbs, and Starlink's direct-to-cell satellite network when nothing else is available. The satellite link is provided through T-Mobile's T-Satellite service — a deal that currently ties the technology to the US exclusively. Dual-band GPS is also onboard to reduce positioning errors in dense urban areas or under heavy tree cover.

The collar adds a feature called Fi Callback, which uses sound and vibration to prompt a dog to return to its owner. No electric shock is involved — the idea is to reinforce recall training rather than replace it. Standard activity tracking, step counting, and walk history round out the feature set.

The cost and the catch

The hardware price of $199 is straightforward. The subscription is not optional — without the $189 annual plan, most features stop working. Existing Fi Series 3 or 3+ subscribers face a steeper path: upgrading costs a flat $299, more than buying new. Fi hasn't explained the pricing gap publicly.

Battery life is roughly two days, a significant drop from older Fi models that ran for weeks. That's the trade-off for always-on GPS and satellite connectivity. Charging uses USB-C.

The collar carries IP68 and IP66K water resistance ratings, meaning it survives full submersion and high-pressure water jets — useful if your dog's outdoor adventures involve mud.

What about the UK?

Fi's Series 3+ is already sold in the UK and across 28 other markets, per Business Wire. The Ultra, however, has no confirmed UK or EU launch date. The T-Satellite partnership is a US-specific arrangement, and no regulatory pathway for Starlink direct-to-cell service in the UK has been announced. Fi's founder told Fortune (exclusive) that global Starlink coverage is coming "soon, every corner of the world" — but gave no timeline. For UK dog owners, the Series 3+ remains the only Fi option for now.
