Huawei's Pura 90s Pro and Pro Max go global with a 200MP camera — and still no Google
Huawei has officially taken its Pura 90s Pro and Pro Max global, unveiling the phones at a July 14 event in Kuala Lumpur. The Pro Max carries what Huawei claims is the industry's first 200MP RYYB telephoto sensor, and both models add 5G and eSIM support — a first for Huawei's international lineup. Neither phone comes with Google apps pre-installed, which remains a significant obstacle for buyers outside China.
The hardware case
The Pura 90s Pro runs on the HiSilicon Kirin 9030S chip, pairs with 12 or 16 GB of RAM, and ships with up to 1 TB of storage. Its 6.58-inch LTPO OLED display adjusts between 1 and 120 Hz. The camera system combines a 50MP variable-aperture main sensor (f/1.4–4.0), a 12.5MP ultrawide, and a 50MP periscope telephoto with 4× optical zoom. Charging comes in at 66W wired and 50W wireless, with a 5,500 mAh battery in EU models (down from 6,000 mAh globally, per regulatory requirements).

The Pro Max steps up to a 6.87-inch panel and a more capable camera array: a 50MP OIS main sensor, a 40MP ultrawide, and that flagship 200MP telephoto — all at 4× optical zoom. Charging is faster here too, at 100W wired and 80W wireless, per GSMArena. Both phones carry an IP69 rating and run EMUI 16, built on AOSP 16. Four colorways are available, including two gradient finishes.

The Google problem
No Google Play Store. No Gmail, Maps, or YouTube pre-installed. Users outside China are directed to Huawei's AppGallery, which still has significant gaps compared to Google Play. Sideloading workarounds exist but require effort most mainstream buyers won't bother with. At these prices — Pro starting at €899 and Pro Max at €1,149, going up to €1,299 — that's a hard sell against the Galaxy S25+ or iPhone 16 Pro, both of which run full Google ecosystems out of the box.

Both models are available in four colors, including two gradient finishes.
UK and US availability
A UK or US release date has not been confirmed. The rollout began in Malaysia on July 14, with the Middle East following July 16. Based on the Pura 80's timeline — which took four to six months to reach the UK after its China announcement, per GaGadget — British buyers should not expect these phones on shelves soon. US availability remains unlikely given ongoing trade restrictions.

European pricing runs from €899 for the Pura 90s Pro to €1,299 for the top-spec Pro Max.
The 200MP sensor is a genuine milestone, and 5G support fixes a long-standing gap in Huawei's global phones. Whether that's enough to compete at flagship prices without Google is the question buyers will have to answer for themselves.
