Xiaomi's next foldable has shown up in real-world photos before any official announcement. The device, believed to be the Mix Fold 5, was photographed by insider Sunny and confirms a major design shift — and a new chip that locks the phone out of Western markets entirely.

The new shape

Previous Mix Fold models used a tall, narrow aspect ratio when unfolded. The Mix Fold 5 goes in the opposite direction: leaked images show a wider, more compact form factor closer to 16:9 when open. That puts it in the same category as the Huawei Pura X Max and the expected Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 — a landscape-friendly foldable rather than a stretched portrait slate.

The display measures 7.5 to 7.6 inches with a reduced center crease. Other specs from earlier leaks include a 200MP main camera, a 6,000mAh battery with wireless charging support, full water resistance, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The phone runs HyperOS 4 on top of Android 17 — GSMArena confirmed the software build and the codename "lhasa."

China only — and that's the problem

The Mix Fold 5 is powered by Xiaomi's in-house Xring O3 chip rather than a Qualcomm processor. That's a significant engineering milestone, but it comes with a catch: Xring O3 doesn't support global 5G bands, which rules out any launch in the US, UK, or EU. Every previous Mix Fold model stayed China-exclusive, and this one looks set to follow the same pattern.

Pricing is expected around CNY 10,000 — roughly $1,400 — a roughly 10% jump over the Mix Fold 4, per Memeburn. That's still well below the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8's likely $1,999 price tag, but Samsung's phone will actually reach US and UK shelves. Xiaomi skipped foldables entirely in 2025, and rivals like Honor and Oppo have since expanded globally while Xiaomi remains pinned to China.

August target

The phone passed Chinese certification recently, and multiple leaks point to an August 2026 launch — possibly August 8, aligned with Xiaomi's annual Xiaomi Day event. The model number date code (2608) supports that window. Xiaomi has not officially confirmed any details about the Mix Fold 5; everything here is still leak territory.
