Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide: titanium hinge, wider screens, no surprises left
Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide is already fully public — and the official launch event hasn't happened yet. Insider Roland Quandt posted complete specs and renders on Bluesky roughly 24 hours before Samsung's London Galaxy Unpacked stage show, leaving tomorrow's event with little to reveal beyond final pricing confirmation. Pre-orders open July 22, with retail availability in early August.
The screen fix that actually matters
Previous Fold models drew consistent criticism for a narrow outer display that made one-handed use awkward. The Fold8 Wide addresses this directly. The outer screen grows to 5.5 inches at a 16:10 ratio — wider and more usable in the hand without unfolding. The inner flexible display stays at 7.6 inches but switches to a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is better suited to reading, browsing, and productivity apps.
Bezels are thinner and more symmetrical than on previous generations, giving the folded phone a cleaner profile.
The titanium pitch
The headline engineering claim is the new Flex Titanium hinge. Samsung uses a titanium film and a flexible titanium plate — a design confirmed by Forbes that extends into the display stack itself, not just the mechanical hinge. The goal is a measurable reduction in the visible crease that has plagued foldables since the category launched. Samsung targets a 20% improvement over the Fold7, though independent real-world tests are still pending post-launch.

Price and the Apple factor
Notebookcheck reports a base UK price of £1,699 for the 256GB model, flat compared to the Fold7 — though higher storage tiers add £100–£280. Four colors are available: cream, graphite, and lavender at major retailers, with an exclusive pistachio option through Samsung's own store only.
The timing is deliberate. Apple's first foldable is widely expected in September 2026 at around £2,000 or more. Samsung gets a six-to-eight week head start with a device that now has a credible answer to the crease complaint that Apple will inevitably face too. Whether the Flex Titanium hinge delivers in daily use is the one question the London event won't answer — that's what the first reviews are for.
