God of War: Laufey has an official release date — February 16, 2027
Sony and Santa Monica Studio have confirmed that God of War: Laufey launches on PS5 on February 16, 2027 — announced live on stage at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. It's the first mainline entry in the franchise where Kratos is not the playable lead, and it arrives in one of the most stacked release windows in recent memory.

A new lead, a new afterlife
Faye — Kratos's wife, voiced by Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil: Born Again) — takes center stage for the first time. The story picks up immediately after her death, as she enters a divine afterlife realm called the Everywhen. It runs parallel to the events of the 2018 God of War, with Faye working to restore the original fate of Kratos and Atreus so an ancient prophecy can be fulfilled.
The Everywhen isn't limited to Norse mythology. Faye will face off against gods and villains drawn from Egyptian, Asian, and other world mythologies — a significant expansion of the franchise's scope. She wields weapons, carries magical abilities, and fights alongside both new characters and familiar faces from previous games.
The full game is positioned as a proper chapter in the saga, not a spinoff. Creative director Cory Barlog used the Comic-Con panel to confirm that a follow-up Kratos-led God of War is already in development and will connect directly to Laufey's story, per Gematsu. No release window for that game was given.
A risky February
The February 16 date drops Laufey into a genuinely crowded slot. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches February 14, Persona 4 Revival on February 18, and Fable on February 23 — as noted by Kotaku. Sony is effectively betting its flagship early-2027 title against three high-profile releases in the same month.
One clear upside: a physical disc release is confirmed. Sony has declared all games from January 2028 onward will be digital-only, so Laufey gets in just under the wire for disc buyers. No price has been announced for any region yet.
US and UK players have only seen Faye through flashbacks in the 2018 game and audio narration in Ragnarök. Selling her as a full protagonist is the real marketing challenge ahead of launch.
