Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold Is Coming Back in 2027
Samsung is reviving its three-panel foldable phone. The Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is planned for July 2027, per 9to5Google, roughly 18 months after the original launched at $2,420 and sold out its entire 30,000-unit production run within weeks. Samsung discontinued that first model in March 2026 — but clearly hasn't abandoned the concept.
Eight flagships, one lineup
Samsung's plan for 2027 follows a "4+4" structure: four Galaxy S27 models in the first half of the year (S27, S27+, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra), then four foldables in the second half — Fold 9, Fold 9 Ultra, Flip 9, and the TriFold 2. That last detail matters because earlier leaks had suggested the Flip line was being killed off; the Electronic Times report puts that rumor to rest. The new Galaxy S27 Pro is also notable — it's described as a near-match for the Ultra but without the S Pen stylus.
Samsung is still in early development on the TriFold 2, with partner briefings underway but final specs not yet locked in. The main display is expected to stay at 9.96 inches with a 4:3 aspect ratio, and the cover screen at 6.49 inches — the same dimensions as the original. A slimmer body is possible but unconfirmed.
A showpiece, not a bestseller
Samsung isn't positioning the TriFold 2 as a mainstream product. Internally, the company treats it as a technology showcase rather than a profit driver — a way to demonstrate what its display engineering can do. That said, SamMobile reports the second generation may launch in more markets than the original, which had very limited distribution. No US or UK carrier deals have been announced, and broader availability isn't finalized.
For context: the original TriFold specs included a 9.96-inch AMOLED display at 2160×1584 with 120Hz refresh, a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 16GB RAM, a 5,600mAh battery with 45W fast charging, and a 200MP main camera. The phone folded inward using Samsung's Armor FlexHinge and carried an IP48 rating. It weighed 309 grams — slightly heavier than the competing Huawei Mate XT.
Whether the TriFold 2 reaches more buyers than its predecessor depends on how aggressively Samsung scales production beyond that initial 30,000-unit ceiling.
