Xbox owners can now get free PC versions of 13 Ubisoft games
If you own select Ubisoft games on Xbox, you can now claim free PC versions at no extra cost — though there's a catch or two worth knowing before you get excited.
Microsoft and Ubisoft announced the expanded partnership on July 27, 2026. It has two parts: a free console-to-PC upgrade for 13 existing titles, and premium editions of Ubisoft games arriving on the Xbox PC app with previously paid DLC bundled in.
The free upgrade list
The 13 games eligible for the free PC transfer are:
- Assassin's Creed Mirage - Assassin's Creed Valhalla - Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora - Far Cry 6 - Immortals Fenyx Rising - Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown - Riders Republic - Skull and Bones - The Crew 2 - The Crew Motorfest - Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction - Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege - Watch Dogs: Legion
New buyers who purchase any of these titles from July 21 onward get both the Xbox and PC versions immediately. Existing owners receive their PC licenses in phases, with the rollout completing by August 4.
The fine print
The upgrade is strictly one-way. Owning a game on PC does not unlock a free Xbox version — only the Xbox-to-PC direction works. Access to the PC copies requires a Ubisoft Connect account, adding a second launcher to the process for anyone who primarily shops through the Xbox app.
Most DLC and season passes transfer alongside the base game. In-game currency and consumable items do not carry over between platforms.
Notably absent from the free upgrade list are two of Ubisoft's biggest recent releases: Assassin's Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws. Both are available as premium editions on the Xbox PC app — bundled with extra content — but neither qualifies for the free cross-platform transfer. As ComicBook.com notes, purchases made through the Xbox Store unlock content via Ubisoft Connect rather than granting straightforward platform ownership, which raises questions about long-term access if the two companies' commercial relationship ever changes.
What to do now
If you own any of the 13 eligible titles on Xbox, check your Ubisoft Connect library — your PC version should appear there either now or before August 4. If you're thinking of buying one of these games, purchasing through Xbox gets you both versions at once.
