Nothing is building its first smartwatch — and it won't be a budget product

Nothing is working on its first smartwatch, and the company plans to keep it under its main brand rather than the cheaper CMF sub-label. Tipster Yogesh Brar reports the watch is nearly finished and could launch as early as September. The timing matters: Nothing is navigating a genuine financial crunch after the DRAM memory cost spike forced it to cancel planned phones, cut staff, and put the CMF lineup on hold.

The pivot to premium

The CMF Phone 2 Pro cancellation — confirmed in June — is the clearest sign Nothing's affordable-first strategy hit a wall, as Notebookcheck reported. Rather than wait for chip costs to fall, the company appears to be doubling down on its design credentials with a higher-margin wearable. Brar says the watch will carry Nothing's signature transparent aesthetic — the same exposed-component look that made the Phone (1) stand out — and will be priced below $300, putting it in premium rather than budget territory.

No specs have leaked: operating system (Wear OS or something proprietary), display type, and health sensors are all unknown. Nothing has made no official statement; everything here comes from a single tipster, so treat the September window and the sub-$300 figure as informed guesses until the company confirms.

What this means for UK and US buyers

The UK is Nothing's second-largest market after India, which makes a smartwatch launch there almost certain — but availability is still unconfirmed. In the US, Nothing's retail footprint is smaller and distribution has historically lagged other regions. At under $300, the watch would compete directly with the Samsung Galaxy Watch and upper-end Garmin models, not the Fitbit or budget Amazfit tier. Nothing's edge would be design; whether that's enough against entrenched rivals with deeper health-tracking ecosystems is the real question.

Earlier this month Nothing did launch two more affordable products — the ear (3a) headphones and the Phone (4b) — showing the company is still shipping. The smartwatch, if it arrives on schedule, would be its biggest category expansion yet.
