Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits $1 billion in six days — second-fastest ever

Spider-Man: Brand New Day reached $1 billion at the global box office in just six days — making it only the second film ever to hit that mark so quickly, behind Avengers: Endgame's five-day run in 2019. The film pulled in $932 million over its opening weekend alone, then crossed the billion-dollar mark by Tuesday, per Screen Daily. For context: Sony and Marvel had forecast an opening somewhere between $200 million and $300 million. The film beat that by more than 60%.

The record-breaker

On the domestic side, Brand New Day took in $360 million over its opening weekend — surpassing Avengers: Endgame's $357 million record from 2019, which had stood as the all-time US/Canada opening for seven years. The UK and Ireland contributed $49 million, the third-biggest opening market globally. International receipts over six days totalled $645.8 million across 66 markets, according to Variety. The film set all-time opening records in more than 19 territories, including France, India, Brazil, Spain, and Saudi Arabia.

It is the 38th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the first American film ever to gross over $400 million domestically in its first four days.

What drove it

The marketing leaned heavily on character and emotion rather than multiverse spectacle — and it landed. The first trailer clocked 719 million views in 24 hours and 1.1 billion views in four days. Audience response backed it up: the film earned a 98% audience score and 90% from critics on Cinemascore, which is unusually strong for a fourth instalment in any franchise.

What's next

Avengers: Endgame remains the all-time Marvel opening record-holder at $1.2 billion in its first weekend globally. Brand New Day has not matched that single-weekend peak, but its legs over the first week suggest it will run long in theatres. The next potential challenger to these records is Avengers: Doomsday, set for release in December 2026 — though whether it benefits from or competes with Brand New Day's tail will depend on how long Holland's film holds its audience.
