Control Resonant shows off a deeply weird subway mission — and a genre shift
Remedy Entertainment has released an exclusive gameplay walkthrough of Control Resonant's Metro Fault mission, giving the clearest look yet at how different this sequel feels from the 2019 original. The game launches September 24, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC — and pre-orders are open now at £49.99 standard or £54.99 Digital Deluxe on PS5.
The mission
The Metro Fault mission sends protagonist Dylan Faden — brother of original game hero Jesse — into a New York subway that has stopped obeying the laws of physics. The deeper he descends, the stranger it gets: trains float and drift through tunnels, walls expand, and Dylan starts hearing Jesse's voice. The Mold returns from the first game too, driving people to madness and slowly killing anyone exposed to it.
Mechanically, the mission functions as one of the game's optional dungeon-style challenges. Completing it unlocks the Reach ability, which lets Dylan scale vertical surfaces quickly. These reward runs appear to be a core loop in Resonant — high-risk areas that pay out new powers.
The platform split
PS5 Digital Deluxe owners get 48-hour early access, meaning they can play from September 22. Xbox Series X|S and PC players on the Digital Deluxe edition pay the same £54.99 — but wait until the standard September 24 date with no early access benefit, as reported by Pure Xbox. Xbox players do get Play Anywhere support across console and PC at no extra cost, which partially offsets the difference.
The game is available to pre-order via the PlayStation UK Store, Xbox, Steam, Epic Games Store, and physical retailers including Currys, Amazon UK, and Smyths Toys. A SteelBook physical edition is also available. The PS5 version carries PS5 Pro Enhanced support.
What's changed
Control Resonant is no longer a shooter. Remedy has shifted the combat toward fast, aggressive hack-and-slash — closer to Devil May Cry than to the telekinesis-heavy gunplay of the original. The main campaign runs around 30 hours; hitting 100% completion pushes that to roughly 50 hours.
The setting moves from the brutalist Oldest House to a warped version of Manhattan, where buildings hang in the air, rotated 90 or 180 degrees, and Dylan can run across their rooftops. According to Remedy Official, the supernatural catastrophe that reshaped the city is central to the story.
