Samsung is building two more wide-screen foldables for 2027

The Galaxy Fold 8's wide-screen form factor has turned out to be Samsung's biggest foldable bet yet, and the company is doubling down. According to a T-Break / ET News Exclusive, Samsung is already developing two additional wide Fold models for 2027 — on top of the Flip, standard Fold, and Fold Ultra it already sells.

Record demand, tight supply

The Fold 8 — the base model of Samsung's 2026 foldable lineup — hit 1.44 million preorders across the Z8 series, a 39% jump over the previous generation. In Korea alone, the Fold 8 accounted for 70% of all Z8 preorders. In Europe, the wide Fold claimed roughly 40% of the series' preorders. Demand ran so high that Samsung had to rush an extra one million units through its supply chain mid-cycle.

Five models in 2027

Samsung's planned Z9 lineup for 2027 is, per SamMobile, shaping up to include five devices: the Flip 9, a Fold 9 in the wide format, a second wide Fold with a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio optimized for video, a book-style Fold 9 Ultra, and a second-generation TriFold. The video-focused model is a meaningful step beyond the Fold 8's 4:3 panel — a 16:9 screen is closer to what you'd see on a TV or laptop, making it a genuinely different experience for streaming.

TriFold returns

The original Galaxy Z TriFold — a phone that unfolds to a 10-inch display, priced at $2,440 — was pulled from sale quickly, and rumors suggested Samsung had scrapped the concept. Those rumors are now wrong. A second-generation TriFold, reportedly codenamed Q9B, is confirmed to be in development.

What to watch

Samsung also holds a patent for a rollable display phone, though there's no confirmed timeline for that to become a real product. The more pressing concern for 2027 is cost: RAM and storage component prices are expected to roughly double by the end of next year, which will put upward pressure on what are already expensive devices. The Fold 8 starts at around $1,900 — future wide models are unlikely to be cheaper.
