Xiaomi just showed the world a humanoid robot that works on a real production line — not a demo stage. Tieda, unveiled at the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing (August 19–23), completed factory tasks with a 98% success rate after a four-month trial inside one of Xiaomi's own auto plants. The catch: Xiaomi has no plans to sell it as a standalone product, making this a B2B manufacturing play, not a consumer launch.

The specs

Tieda stands 1,700 mm tall, weighs 66 kg, and moves through 66 degrees of freedom — giving it enough dexterity to handle tasks that require precise, repeatable motion. Its predecessor, CyberOne (2022), was bulkier and largely a showpiece. Tieda is positioned as a working unit.

The control system is the bigger story. Unlike many humanoid robots that rely on remote operators during demos, Tieda runs on a large language model (LLM) that lets it read a situation, interpret a task, and choose its own actions. Gizmochina (Aug 18, 2026) confirmed that Xiaomi president Lu Weibing prioritized smart manufacturing over retail from the start.

Factory results

During its trial at a self-tapping nut installation station — repetitive work requiring consistent precision — Tieda's success rate climbed from 90.2% to 98% over the four months. That's one percentage point below the average human worker. Xiaomi expects to formally deploy it to that task permanently.

In the final assembly logistics zone, Tieda sorted side panels and packed material boxes. Success rates there ran around 90%, which is still a solid result for a fully autonomous system operating on a live production line.

Where it sits vs. Tesla

The comparison with Tesla Optimus is inevitable. Both robots target factory deployment and both lean on AI-first control rather than traditional programming. Tesla's vision-only approach — cameras and neural networks, no LiDAR — differs from Tieda's LLM-based architecture, which emphasizes task reasoning over pattern recognition. According to Standard Bots (2026), Tesla is targeting an Optimus cost of $20,000–$30,000; Tieda has no disclosed price. Tesla Optimus also remains internal-only through 2026, with external sales expected no earlier than 2027.

For now, neither robot is available to buy. Tieda's deployment favors Xiaomi's own supply chain, and there's no announced timeline for licensing or partnerships outside China.

Beyond the factory floor

Xiaomi gave Tieda a lighter moment at the 2026 World Rally Championship, where it scattered flower petals, shook hands with spectators, and flashed heart gestures for the crowd. It's the kind of demo that plays well on social media — and reminds everyone that the engineering ambition here is real, even if the commercial roadmap isn't.
