Metro 2039 leads the Gamescom Award 2026 with five nominations
Metro 2039 has picked up more Gamescom Award 2026 nominations than any other game at this year's show. Developer 4A Games' upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter earned five nods — Best PC, Best PlayStation, Best Xbox, Best Visuals, and Most Epic — making it the clear frontrunner heading into the public vote. The game launches in February 2027 on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, per Deep Silver.
Five categories, three platforms
Picking up nominations across all three major platforms in the same year is rare for any single title, let alone one from an independent studio. Alien: Isolation 2 from SEGA follows with four nominations, sharing that position with the arcade title Denshattack!. Forza Horizon 6 and the adventure game OPUS: Prism Peak each landed three.
The full list spans 19 categories across three groups — platform-specific awards, genre awards, and specialty awards — covering everything from Best Mobile Game to Best Social Impact Game. Voting runs August 26–27, combining a professional jury of critics and journalists with a public online vote, reports Yahoo Gaming. Winners are announced at the Gamescom closing ceremony on August 30.
Playing it at the show
Metro 2039 will be playable at Gamescom for the first time, with 4A Games running a booth in Hall 9.1 from August 27–30. Anyone attending the Cologne show can get hands-on time before the February 2027 release.
Appetite for the game beyond Cologne is already clear: Metro 2039 crossed one million Steam wishlists within two weeks of its reveal in April 2026, according to AllThings. No UK or US pricing has been confirmed yet. Game Pass availability also remains unannounced despite the Xbox platform nomination and Xbox's visible presence at Gamescom — something worth watching ahead of launch.
