Samsung's Odyssey G6 hits 1100Hz — but the 600Hz mode is the real story

Samsung has unveiled the Odyssey G6, a 27-inch gaming monitor with a 1100Hz refresh rate, at Gamescom 2026 — making it the fastest panel the company has ever shipped. The number is genuinely record-breaking, though what it takes to get there tells a more complicated story.

The catch with 1100Hz

That headline refresh rate only kicks in at 720p (HD) resolution. Drop the monitor into its QHD mode — 2560 x 1440, the native resolution of the 27-inch panel — and the maximum drops to 600Hz. Samsung calls this dual-mode operation a feature, letting competitive players trade image sharpness for maximum motion clarity when it matters most. The G6 pairs a Fast IPS panel with a 1ms response time throughout both modes.

For context, no consumer GPU currently sustains 1100 frames per second in a real game. LG's rival UltraGear 1100Hz monitor (the 25G590B, priced at $999.99) reportedly requires an RTX 50-series GPU just to reach that ceiling — and that's at 1080p, not 720p. Samsung has not disclosed GPU requirements for the G6's 1100Hz mode.

Where it fits

The G6 was first shown at CES 2026 with a 1040Hz cap. By Gamescom, Samsung's engineers had pushed that figure to 1100Hz — though no explanation was given for the jump. The monitor sits alongside a broader 2027 Odyssey lineup that includes a 49-inch OLED G9 at 360Hz, a 32-inch OLED G8 with a triple-mode setup, and a 42-inch curved OLED G7.

Samsung has also announced an HDR10+ Gaming partnership with Activision, tying the G6 to the October 23, 2026 launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Broader game support is expected to reach 20-plus titles by early 2027, though that ecosystem is still nascent.

Price and availability

Samsung has confirmed a global launch in the second half of 2026 but has not announced pricing or market-specific availability. Given that LG's competing 1100Hz monitor already sits at $999.99 in the US, the G6 is unlikely to be budget hardware. Established esports benchmarks like the Acer Predator XB273U F6 (1000Hz at 720p, 500Hz at QHD) and the BenQ Zowie XL2586X+ (600Hz) will be the realistic alternatives for most players while they wait for Samsung to show its hand on price.
