The Witcher 3 Remastered drops September 29 — free for existing owners
If you already own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the upcoming remaster is yours for free — no catch. CD Projekt RED announced this week that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered arrives on September 29, 2026, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and now Battle.net. Existing owners on qualifying platforms get the upgrade automatically, and every base-game owner also receives the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions at no charge, effective immediately.
The look and the changes
GameSpot aired five minutes of gameplay footage from gamescom 2026 that shows more than a visual polish. Combat has been reworked — monsters now have new behaviors and attack patterns, demonstrated in a boss fight against a demon called Morvudd during the "Missing Son" quest. The graphical uplift is real: path-traced lighting and reworked foliage bring the decade-old open world level with current AAA titles.
The quality-of-life addition likely to get the most attention is transmog. Geralt can now swap the appearance of any piece of gear without losing its stats — no more choosing between looking good and being effective.
The price, the platforms, the 2027 roadmap
New players can buy the Complete Edition at $49.99 on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, or $59.99 on Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-owned base copies are widely available from as little as $5–$6.99, making the free-upgrade path essentially zero-cost for anyone willing to buy second-hand before September 29. Per the GamesRadar pricing guide, that's one of the more generous re-entry offers in recent memory.
The Battle.net version comes with a Diablo 4 crossover cosmetic for players who purchase through Blizzard's launcher — the first time a Witcher title has appeared there. Looking further ahead, the paid Songs of the Past expansion is confirmed for 2027, co-developed with Fool's Theory. It adds a new region called Letten and a chain weapon class. According to the CD Projekt Red official press, Songs of the Past is not included in the free remaster upgrade and will be sold separately.
The bigger picture
The free expansion bundle and zero-cost upgrade path are a clear goodwill move ahead of The Witcher 4. CD Projekt RED is betting that keeping the existing playerbase happy now builds momentum for whatever comes next — and with Nintendo Switch 2 support adding a brand-new platform audience, the studio is casting a wide net heading into 2027.
