Huawei's Pura X View is a wide-screen slab phone with no folding required
Huawei has officially priced and detailed the Pura X View, a non-folding phone that borrows the wide-screen proportions popularized by foldables — without the hinge. It goes on sale in China on September 9, starting at roughly $845. No official US or UK launch has been announced.
The wide-slab idea
Most phones use a tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The Pura X View flips that logic and goes wider — 16:9.5 — squeezing a 6.39-inch OLED panel into a conventional slab body. The screen peaks at 6,500 nits of brightness, refreshes at 120Hz, and is protected by Kunlun glass. At 6.68mm thick and 201g, it's slim despite carrying a 7,000 mAh battery — larger than anything in the current iPhone or Galaxy S lineup. Charging tops out at 66W wired and 50W wireless.
The chipset is Huawei's own Kirin 9030S, built on a 5nm process per nanoreview. That puts it in flagship territory on paper, though direct benchmark comparisons against Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 aren't yet available for this device. Software is HarmonyOS 7, with dual physical SIM and eSIM support, IP68/IP69 water resistance, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.
The camera stack
The Pura X View is available in Shadow Red, Linen Gray, Zero White, and Phantom Black.
The rear camera system has four elements: a 200MP main sensor (OmniVision, 1/1.28-inch, f/1.8 with OIS), an 8MP ultra-wide, a 50MP periscope zoom at 3.7× optical, and a 2MP multispectral sensor for color accuracy. It comes in four colors — Shadow Red, Linen Gray, Zero White, and Phantom Black.
The rear camera system includes a 200MP main sensor, periscope zoom, and a multispectral sensor.
Three storage configurations are available at launch in China: 12GB/256GB (~$845), 12GB/512GB (~$985), and 12GB/1TB (~$1,125), per Memeburn.
The catch for Western buyers
HarmonyOS does not include Google Mobile Services. That means no Google Play Store, no Gmail, no Google Maps — AppGallery only. For US and UK users dependent on everyday apps like WhatsApp, Spotify, or banking tools, that's a real-world friction point that goes beyond specs.
There's no confirmed UK or US retail channel. Based on the rollout pattern of the Pura X and Pura 80 series, a broader release into parts of Europe and Southeast Asia could arrive by November 2026 — but that's an estimate, not a commitment. Until then, import via third-party resellers is the only route, according to Liaow.
The wide-screen format is a genuinely different approach for a non-folding phone, and the battery and display specs are strong on paper. Whether the HarmonyOS trade-off is worth it depends entirely on how embedded you are in Google's ecosystem.
