Forza Horizon 6 may not hit PS5 until spring 2027, despite Microsoft's promise

Forza Horizon 6 may not reach PlayStation 5 until spring 2027, according to The Verge's Tom Warren — a claim that directly contradicts Playground Games' own public statement. The racing title launched on Xbox Series X/S and PC on May 19, 2026, but PS5 owners are still waiting. If Warren is right, the gap between platforms could stretch to 18 months or more.

The conflict

Playground Games pushed back on delay reports in a blog post on September 8, writing that Forza Horizon 6 "will be releasing on PS5 later this year." Warren, one of the most reliable reporters on the Xbox beat, disagrees. Per The Verge, his sources say the studio plans to release the PS5 version alongside the game's first major expansion — timed to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the original launch. That points to mid-May 2027.

Crucially, Warren says the hold-up isn't fear of GTA VI's autumn 2026 release, as earlier speculation suggested. The driver, according to his sources, is a deliberate business decision to bundle the platform launch with a big content drop.

What this means for PS5 players

Forza Horizon 5 arrived on PS5 on April 29, 2025, marking the first time a mainline Forza title landed on a non-Microsoft platform. That move set an expectation: Microsoft was serious about bringing its racing games to PlayStation. An 18-month delay for Forza Horizon 6 would put a dent in that narrative.

For players in the US and UK, there's also a regulatory context worth noting. Xbox made multi-platform commitments during FTC scrutiny of its gaming acquisitions. A prolonged delay — even if framed as a content strategy rather than exclusivity — invites questions about the sincerity of those pledges.

Where things stand

Right now, two things are simultaneously true: Playground says the game is coming to PS5 in 2026, and Warren says it isn't. No third-party source has corroborated either position. The studio's wording — "later this year" in a September statement — leaves little room before the year ends, which itself suggests internal uncertainty.

PS5 players can follow developments on the official Forza channels. In the meantime, Forza Horizon 6 is available now on Xbox Series X/S and PC via Game Pass and as a standalone purchase.
