iPhone 18 Pro Unveiled: Blazing Speed with A20 Pro Chip, Longer Battery Life, and Revolutionary Camera Innovations
At the annual September presentation, Apple introduced a new generation of its flagship smartphones — iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
In terms of design, the new models are almost identical to the 2025 and 2024 models and visually retain the same camera block located on a wide plateau, but the camera system has been significantly updated, battery life has been increased, and the A20 Pro chipset takes smartphone performance to a new level.
As insiders reported, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max received a reduced Dynamic Island cutout — it became 20% more compact, providing more space for content on the screen.
Record performance and increased battery life
The smartphones' performance is now handled by the advanced Apple A20 Pro chipset, created using 2nm technology. It features a 6-core CPU with two high-performance super cores and four energy-efficient ones. The chipset also includes a 7-core graphics co-processor, which provides a 40% performance boost.
AI task processing is managed by a 32-core NPU with a 100% bandwidth increase — such an increase in power is highly relevant amid the expansion of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI capabilities. The A20 Pro is directly connected to the vapor chamber for more efficient heat dissipation, and it is three times larger than the iPhone 17 Pro, allowing the 18 Pro to maintain maximum performance 40% longer than its predecessor.
The battery in the new iPhones has grown — Apple claims the longest battery life in the lineup's history. The iPhone 18 Pro lasts as long as the iPhone 17 Pro Max, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max provides up to 30 hours of usage without recharging. Wired charging has also become faster, with customers promised a 50% charge replenishment in just 15 minutes at an outlet.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are running iOS 27.
Rumors of a variable aperture confirmed
The cameras have undergone significant changes. The main module of the iPhone 18 Pro is a 48 MP Fusion with a variable aperture, and this feature is not exclusive to the Max version.
Thanks to the variable aperture, night mode shooting has become faster and of higher quality, and the aperture itself can narrow to increase the depth of field. The "Camera" app has acquired professional control elements with a customizable interface and new manual settings capabilities, allowing adjustment of the aperture and shutter speed manually. An intelligent focus mode is provided for better focus on the subject, and photographic styles have become more advanced and now include texture control.
Additionally, the "Apple Reference Image" feature has been implemented, confirming the authenticity of the photograph. It adds metadata that guarantees the image was not created by artificial intelligence and keeps a reference shot along with edited fragments, allowing the original material to be always checked.

As Tim Cook warned, prices for the new flagships have increased by $100. The base iPhone 18 Pro with 256 GB now costs $1199, and the Pro Max — $1299.
Pre-orders start on Saturday, September 12, and official store sales begin on September 18.
