Honor's MagicOS 11 brings system-wide Liquid Glass and a smarter AI assistant
Honor has unveiled MagicOS 11 at its Global Developer Conference 2026, and it may be the most direct challenge yet to Apple's iOS design language. The new firmware is built on Android 17 and applies a translucent "Liquid Glass" style across the entire interface — not just a handful of menus — making Honor one of the first Android manufacturers to commit to the effect system-wide.
The look
MagicOS 11's Liquid Glass design borrows the frosted, semi-transparent aesthetic that Apple popularised, but Honor implements it on its own Luminous and Hummingbird rendering architecture. The result, according to Honor, is animations that are 20% smoother than MagicOS 10 despite the heavier visual workload. Icon tinting and a customisable Dock round out the changes, giving the interface a noticeably more cohesive feel.
What's new under the hood
Three additions stand out beyond the redesign:
- Yoyo AI assistant now covers 1,000-plus everyday scenarios and connects to 10,000 third-party services. It can chain up to 100 sequential actions autonomously — think booking a restaurant and adding it to your calendar in one command. That's a direct swing at Apple Intelligence and Google's Gemini, though Yoyo's real-world performance outside China remains untested. - Storage Space 2.0 uses lossless data compression and automatic cleanup to claim up to 60GB of recovered space. Honor hasn't published technical benchmarks, and no independent lab has verified the figure yet — treat it as a target rather than a guarantee until third-party tests emerge. - Cross-ecosystem file sharing now extends beyond Apple devices to include Oppo, vivo, and Xiaomi handsets, per Nokiamob, broadening the interoperability story considerably.
When and for which devices
MagicOS 11's full release arrives with the Honor Magic 9 series, confirmed for a September 28 launch in Beijing, per Tech Advisor. A UK or US date hasn't been announced, but Honor's recent flagship pattern puts a Western rollout roughly four to eight weeks behind China — pointing to November or December at the earliest.
An open public beta covering 18 models is already live, including the Magic 8 series, Magic V6, and Honor 600 range. A closed beta for the Magic 6 series, Magic V3, Honor 500, and Honor 400 opens for registration now, with the rollout expected in October–November.
MagicOS 11 is a confident design statement — but its AI claims and storage tool need real-world scrutiny before they can be taken at face value.
