TuSimple trucks will go driverless by the end of the year

These are the plans the company shared at its quarterly results call.

TuSimple chose the 80-mile route between Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, for the first tests of fully unmanned trucks. If their plans are destined to come to fruition, they could become the first company to put driverless trucks on public roads in the US. Funny thing is, it won't be an American company, but a Chinese one.

Unmanned trucks are highly anticipated in the US. U.S. experts recently estimated that the country's long-haul trucking industry is already experiencing a shortage of 45-60,000 drivers, and that shortage could grow to 100,000 on the horizon of a couple of years.
