Meta (formerly Facebook) unveiled a glove that allows you to experience objects in virtual reality

Meta (formerly Facebook) today unveiled a prototype tactile glove, which is the brainchild of Reality Labs' research division.

What is it and

 why?

It is a glove with 15 ribbed and inflatable plastic overlays that is designed to better interact with objects in the virtual world. With it can be used to feel your fingertips touching and grasping any object. To simulate touch, the pressure in individual actuators changes to create a sense of resistance.

In addition, the glove can act as a virtual reality controller. To do this, special markers track hand movement and finger flexion.

By the way, work on this technology began back in 2014, when Facebook bought the startup Oculus VR. In 2015, the developers showed off their first prototype - a finger with a single drive.
