Seattle-based startup calls Meta VR glove prototype "identical" to its own patented technology
Just a few days ago, the editorial office gg Meta (formerly Facebook) unveiled a glove that allows you to experience objects in virtual reality (formerly known as Facebook) in the form of a glove that allows you to get tactile sensations when "touching" objects in virtual reality.
Almost immediately after that, the founder of the startup HaptX, Jake Rubin, announced that he saw HaptX's patented developments in the Meta prototype. More specifically, we are talking about pneumatic control device and microfluidic material with tactile feedback based on silicone.
Moreover, Rubin clearly hinted that the design of the Meta gloves is "essentially identical" to the developments of HaptX for a reason: for several years, Facebook employees of different ranks visited the HaptX office, where they were shown in detail the relevant developments of the startup.
In his message, Jake Rubin expressed the hope that the controversial issue of the technologies involved can be resolved through negotiations and that representatives of Meta have not yet contacted HaptX about this.
The startup itself was founded back in 2012, and showed the first prototypes of VR gloves four years later. In 2019, even Amazon founder Jeff Bezos tried on the HaptX tactile gloves, but this did not lead to any specific business decisions.
