Kyocera to stop producing consumer smartphones and focus on corporate customers

Kyocera has decided to exit the consumer smartphone market. The Japanese company has been manufacturing mobile phones since 1989.

Here's What We Know

Kyocera has already officially announced that it is leaving the consumer phone market. The decision comes amid a difficult period that ended with a multimillion-dollar loss of $16.6 million at the end of February 2023.

Kyocera President Hideo Tanimoto said that the manufacturer from the Land of the Rising Sun is no longer able to find a product that will appeal to a broad market. The company will therefore focus on serving corporate customers.

In recent years, Kyocera has faced problems not only on the world stage but also at home. The company has started losing competition in Japan to Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi and OPPO, as well as local brands Sony and Sharp.
