Indian teacher spent 11 years turning a 1998 Nissan Micra into a solar-powered electric car
Bilal Ahmed, a math teacher from Kashmir, has spent 11 years building an electric car that runs on solar power. The inspiration came from the DeLorean DMC-12 from the Back to the Future movie trilogy, shown in the image above.
What we know
In 2009 the news about the potential increase in the cost of gasoline motivated a mathematician from India to start working on his own electric car that would not depend on petroleum products. But it took 11 years to turn the idea into reality.
Bilal Ahmed modified a 1998 Nissan Micra. He equipped it with six monocrystalline solar panels. They are located on the trunk, roof, and doors. According to the mathematician, he favored this solar panel because monocrystals can produce energy even with a small amount of sunlight and occupy a small area.
The solar panels provide the electric car with 40 percent of its energy. The battery capacity is 50 A*h, which is enough to run the engine with a capacity of 10-20 kW. Voltage is not mentioned by the enthusiast.
