Repair for the price of a new smartphone: how much does it cost to replace parts of the foldable Huawei Pocket 2

This week Huawei unveiled a new foldable smartphone Pocket 2. And although it is not yet available (sales will start on 1 March), ahead of the release Huawei revealed the cost of replacing parts of the gadget in case of breakage.

Here's What It Costs

The most expensive component was the motherboard. The version with 12/256 GB of memory costs $465, 12/512 GB - $520, and the top configuration with 12 GB/1 TB - $620. Replacing the display isn't cheap either, at $425. And the cheapest part was the receiver, its cost is only $12.

The rates for other parts are as follows:

  • battery - $42
  • battery cover - $82.
  • rear camera: main sensor - $75; wide-angle - $37; telephoto - $40; hyperspectral - $35.
  • camera lens - $18
  • front camera - $38
  • adapter - $18
  • data cable - $10
  • speaker - $15
  • charging port - $25
  • fingerprint sensor - $13

But these are just prices for individual components, and the actual cost of repairs can be higher depending on the extent of the damage. Also, these figures do not take into account labour charges. The prices are relevant only for China, as the Huawei Pocket 2 is still available only there.

By the way, the smartphone itself costs from $1044.
